Tabwa Slit Gong

Tabwa occupy the west coast of Lake Tanganyika in Zaire and some part of the northeastern Zambia. This gong is made to be suspended from the drummers shoulder by a strap, passing through the side handles. Drummer would strike it with wooden mallet, covered with rubber.

In order to communicate with their comrades, military expeditions in Zaire retained groups of musicians who used such drums.
