The kpelie is an ancestor mask, a human face with projections all around which is used at the ceremony of the lo society. It governed the social life of the tribe. Although the occasions on which it is used may differ, it always represents the face of an ancestor with formerly common tattoos, closely connected to the society’s origin. In this case – a double image is very special.
