Tu bodu Mask.The 20,000 Yohure inhabit the central region of the Côte d’Ivoire. For this people, the masks are representations of the yu spirits, intermediates between Bali, the supreme creator, and humankind. This mask is an example of one of the seven mask types, which make up the je masquerade corpus of the Yohure. With the aid of such masks, the people hope to influence supernatural powers, or yu, that can do harm to humans, but that can also ensure their welfare. These masks are considered emblems of yu, extremely dangerous, to be handled with extreme caution, and absolutely kept out of sight of women.
