The Punu are equatorial people settled in the southwest of Gabon. A saurian scale pattern on many of their masks imitates scales of the alligator. Punu society was matre-lineal. Meaning people knew their mothers but rarely their fathers.
This passport size body mask was made for decoration. We purchased it on a recent trip on the border of Uganda and Kongo Democratic Republic.
