Queen Mother in Benin had an altar that is said to have been decorated with rooster figures. The highest-ranking wife of the Oba was known as the rooster because she has the loudest voice. 
Such roosters have been made for years - since at least the 17th century.The bronze alloy figure is hollow inside.
