Many ethnic groups living in West-African countries produce different bronze objects. These items have been used in different ceremonies: to communicate with unseen forces, in ceremonies marking succession of power, in hunters rituals, for protective purposes. The present figurine of an ancestress came from Burkina Faso, apparently from the Mossi people; it has been produced for one of ceremonies, but its specific function is not known.
