Bulu Gorilla Ritual Figure

ArtTribal.com

Sold

Occupying the border region between Cameroon and Gabon, the Bulu form part of the Fang group and live not far from Kwele, with whom they share cultural similarities. They practiced a ngi ritual against sorcery, in particular, against poisonings. Ngi is the gorilla, a fearful animal, with whom the candidate identifies after he has been accepted into the association. The specific function of this figure in the ngi ceremony is not known.
