This West African bronze sculpture presents a wonderful repetition of vertical elements. It is very rhythmical - the legs of the horse and the three torsos of its riders are all in sync. Their short curved legs, the curved neck and face of the horse, the rein and horse's tail balance out the vertical rhythm as does the long horizontal spine of the horse. For a figure that is standing still, there seems to be lots of movement! An interesting feature of this group is a walking trumpet player walking alongside the horse.
This is a delightful sculpture. It weighs 15 pounds.
