The Metoko people live in deep forest of central DRC, on the left bank of the Zaire River. Several ethnicities are found here – the Mbole, Yela, Lengola, and Metoko – among whom it is difficult to distinguish since their social structure is similar. Hunting is their main source of food. The art of the Metoko is related in style to that of the Lega. The figures of the Metoko are used at the beginning of the circumcision ceremonies, for funerals, and peace-making ceremonies
